Good news for buyers!
The Westminster Government has today (3rd December) introduced new stamp duty rates if you are buying a property for over £125,000. This will mean savings for most buyers.
The new rates which apply from 4th December throughout the UK, including Scotland, mean that whereas under the old rules you would have paid tax at a single rate on the entire property price, you will now only pay the rate of tax on that part of the price within each tax band. This will result in significant savings for most people, dependent on the purchase price level.
These rules apply till 1st April 2015 when stamp duty in Scotland will be replaced by the new Land and Buildings Transaction Tax.
