General Information

North Toogs is situated on the east side of the island of West Burra which lies off the west coast of Shetland along with East Burra, although both are connected to mainland Shetland by two fixed bridges via the neighbouring island of Trondra.

Scalloway is only about six miles to north of the house, and Lerwick just 11 miles to the east is within easy commuting distance, but there are local amenities on the island at nearby Hamnavoe, about 2 miles from the house, where there is a shop & post office, the island's primary school and marina. There is a children’s play park right by the house.

A feeder bus service to Scalloway runs along the main road through Burra a short distance from the house, further amenities there including several local shops, another school, the swimming pool, doctor’s surgery and the North Atlantic Fisheries College at Port Arthur.

Drive to Burra. On the approach to Hamnavoe turn left to Bridge End and continue for about 1½ miles passing Meal beach and then later on the Methodist chapel. Just after the chapel turn left to Toogs opposite the bus stop, and take the first left to North Toogs. Cross the cattle grid and drive to the public parking area at the end of the road. No. 13 is situated in the far right hand corner, accessed by a path.
